Blogging – Take two

A year ago I started a MySpace webpage and blog.  Turns out I don’t like it much and don’t use it much.  Thought I would give blogging another try so here I am…  Now, let’s state the obvious I am not an Ent Wife.  In fact, I’m not a wife at all (yet).  However, I thoroughly enjoy the characters of the Ents in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.”  I’ve been known to watch the extended version of the movie just to watch the Ents.  I just listened to the unabridged audiobook of it on my way to and from work.  Nothing made me happier after a stressful day than getting in my car and hearing about the Ents kicking some Orc butt.

Ents, according to Treebeard, have a thing about not being hasty.  They take their time when talking or making decisions or doing much of anything.  Of course, this gets them in trouble because they lost their Ent wives – most likely ’cause they got tired of waiting around for the Ents to do something.  From what I understand the Ent wives wandered off in search of adventure.  I’m not sure if I’m more like an Ent or an Ent wife but, since I’m a woman, I decided to title this blog after the Ent wives.  Just for fun.  If you’ve never heard, read, or seen LOTR this won’t make a lot of sense to you.  Oh well – you’re missing out on a good story!!

As an interesting aside, a friend of my earned herself/was given the nickname of Gimli in high school.  I – having never read LOTR – didn’t understand the reference but it was fun to say so it stuck.  She will forever be “Gimli” in my head.  Speaking of friends, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about what it means to be a friend, what friendship is all about, etc. but that is a post for another day.

Well, here’s hoping that I do better with this blog than I did with MySpace!!

  1. This is great! Do you remember, by any chance, the time that I decided it was high time that *you* got a nickname?

I hadn’t read LOTR yet, either, and so I arbitrarily picked “The Two Towers” down from my dad’s shelf, flipped to some page in the middle and went, “Ha! That’s PERFECT for Heather!”

It might not have stuck, but I think it still suits you.

    The name? Treebeard. :-)

    Miss you,
    Gim

  2. [...] I was also reminded just exactly how much I love the Ents.  Man, those things are cool!  Click here to read more about why I named this blog after the Ent wives.  I also worked my way through most of [...]
